I have power dvd that came w/ my sony vaio with a dvr-104 pioneer dvd-rw burner...anyway after i rip the dvd with dvd decrypter can i watch the movie or at least check to see if the audio is in sync before i go and encode and author it. this would save my a lot of time. i tried opening from hd in power dvd but nothing ever loads. thanks in advance.

Yes you can do this, but only if you are ripping the entire disc. You need a valid VIDEO_TS.IFO file to play the movie. If you are just ripping the movie stream, then it won't work with PowerDVD.

for the movie to work in power dvd - the .ifo file needs to be in CAPITALS.
if it isn't - just rename it to be in such a format
