  1. I was trying to backup a Mash episode from DVD. I used OSex to get the VOB, and didnt know what to do with both (AUDIO and VIDEO) in the same file, so I did it again. This time choosing the option to have seperate VIDEO and AUDIO.

Now I had been following a guide that had me convert the audio to aiff, that was fine. Then the video I would take the .mv2 and convert at approx 350 x 240 to mov, and the resulting file was about 2.6 gigs. for video. Then I would put the two together with QT6, by copying and adding scaled. And then I would get the sync to work correctly by using Mutator OSX, and adjust the VIDEO duration. Either shorter or longer.

I would then export with mjpeg A to MOV then to mpg for vcd. It was a lot of steps, and depending on the setting of least to best for mpegj A setting, the size was variable. but then I

Took the .mv2 file from OSEx, and combine it with the AIFF. (.mv2 from first step, and aiff from 2nd step. I opened each in QT6 Pro, and added the Video to the AUDIO. not scaled if I remember, but just added. To my surprise I was looking at a beautiful picture, and it was in sync. I tried to export this combined movie to VCD , but got a message that there was no video, so I tried to export using mpegJA using BEST qualit, It worked and got a file that was 7.23 gigs, then took that and tried to export as VCD file, and it worked and got a file that was only 255 mb and fits and burns nicely with toast as a VCD.

Results: The 25 minute + episode looks great. Not sure why or how. But I can repeat this on other episodes to backup. The only thing I notice is when there are titles up on the screen, below the titles I will see what looks like fumes, or a haziness to the screen. Other than that, I think it looks beautiful.

Would like to do others, but will wait, till I get the feel, that I am not missing something, to make them even better.

Not sure if I would have been able to do this , prior to having QT6 able to play mv2.

Thanks, for any help or guidance.

  2. You can use ffmpegX to go directly from a VOB to a VCD or SVCD.

Make sure that when you use OSeX that you use the "Program Stream" option.

  4. Tried to ffmpegX, and I ended up with 6 .img files, and 4 mpeg files. Each of the 4 mpeg files had variation in the degree of audio synch that was out. From the glance I gave them, it looked like many, many seconds, or a whole scene out of sync.

This is first experiemtn with this app. Dont want to give up on it, And the fact that it does the whole process automatically would be great. It certainly made the formatting of the screen a little different. Looks more letterbox, with black bars above and below. , but the audio sync issue, and the amount of files that it generates, is something that I will have to answer with the help of a learning curve...

    Thanks for any suggestions, again.
