  1. Hi i got a sony digital cam.

unfotunately it is not compatible with premier or something like that for caputring, and the bundled software (Movieshaker) has no good export options.

Thru some other program's i am able to convert the digitaly captured *.mmv files to a 720x576 mpeg file.

I want to convert this very large file to CVD or SVCD for saving my movies so i can clear my tapes again.

I tried coverting using TMPGEnc, but i do not seem to be able to get a result with wich i am pleased. It all look blurry and has blocks in it.

I tried converting divx movies and dvd's to CVD before and the quality then was perfect.

Does anybody know what migt be wrong??
    - can it be the coversion from mmv to mpeg that might not be standard?
    - can it be the settings in tmpgenc?
(i use standard svcd(pal) template with altered resolution and sound settings)

i'm a bit lost here.... i do not know why the converted file doesn't look as good as the converted divx movies. The source mpeg is perfect quality.

    thnx for helping!

When you load your video into TMPGEnc, loaded your template, adjusted your settings, tweak your video using this guide

  3. Possibly the the problem is in the conversion from .mmv to .mpeg files. What "other programs" are you using to convert the .mmv files to .mpeg files? When you said the source mpeg is perfect quality, were you referring to the .mmv or the converted .mpeg? It sounds like you are converting twice, from .mmv to .mpeg in one program, then from. mpeg to CVD/SVCD .mpeg in TMPGEnc. Am I understanding your process right? Is TMPGEnc unable to open the .mmv file directly? What if you change the extension from .mmv to .mpeg does that make any difference?
I don't have experience with this MicroMV format but I understand its basically a form of mpeg-2 file. Possibly some of the mpeg repair/converter utilities may be of help.

  4. the way i tried this is:
    - capture the video direct from vam to .mmv thru firewire
    - convert the mmv to mpeg thru graphedit using sony's drivers to demux the mmv and remuxing it to mpeg
    - convert the mpeg

both mmv and mpeg are perfect quality.

i tried loading the mmv directly in tmpgenc this also works. stupid i didn't try that before ofcourse

but this didn't solve my problem.
the resulting mpeg-2 file after conversion is still not good quality enough.

i'm going to read thru the suggested guide by Tommyknocker.

If that still doesn't work i will put up some screenshots or small test files somewhere on the internet.
