I am just getting started in video editing. Some friends recommended this site to me. Hope I'm in the right place. Any way, I just dumped some VCR footage to my hard drive using ULEAD VideoStudio 5 and my AIW Radeon 7500 vid card. I think I captured it in MPEG2 format, but I'm not really sure. It says MPEG in the file properties, but not sure if it's MPEG 1 or 2. Is there a way to tell? What I would like to do now is burn this footage to a CD that can be played on a stand alone DVD player. I have no idea how to proceed from here. Do I need to convert this MPEG file to some other format first? I am using NERO to burn the CD if that makes a difference. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Take a look over to the left of this page, you will see a number of sections. The 1st section is called 'WHAT IS'. This should be compulsory reading for anyone entering into video capture/encoding/editing the 1st time. Onec you have decided what you actually want to do, move down the column a bit, start with the Newbie guides as a bit of light reading, then, in your case you probably want help with the capture process in order to prepare for the next stags, Edit and then convert. Once you have got all this stuff working to your satisfaction you will need to learn about Authoring and Burning. There is a section for this also.
Good luck and have fun with your new Hobby (hope you have lots of time on your hands and that you learn quick!).
