there is no reason to go PC in this situation anymore... if you are going to get a new computer buy a new mac.. a g3 isnt going to encode things fast in general, no matter what method you choose. i have a DP 800 which u cant even buy anymore (makes me really mad that i didnt wait to spend the same amount on a dual 1.25... oh well) You can get a computer better than mine for 1700$ and you get really good encode speeds. with a process you wouldnt be able to do on your g3 (it requires a G4 processor) it takes me the length of the movie to downsample a video, and if i choose to go SVCD from there it takes about 8 hours or so.. and thats just with stock memory, if i had more memory im sure it would be faster than that., the processes are just getting panned out, have patience and stick with mac.. dont go pc JUST cuz one thing is easier. our processes have evolved by leaps and bounds over the course of just months... i mean do what you please but i think if you get a new pc instead of a mac youll regret it.

For the record, I'm one of those people who produce, when I'm moved, SVCDs on my Mac that are in sync and work on all the players I've tested them on. For the record, I find they all look terrible on the computer, but look shockingly brilliant on television, which is where I tend to watch these discs, anyway. Maybe the MPEG-2 decoder in DVD-drive Macs works more efficiently at decoding high bitrate (DVD) video? I dunno.
