    Can I burn an encoded SVCD movie in to an DVD-R ???????

    yes, with a dvd writer. check your compatibility.

    make sure your dvd player plays your media(dvdr) and the format(svcd).
    if you will only be playing this on your computer, you'll be find.

    A cd writer can only burn CDRs and CDRWs... If you're just burning an SVCD to a cdr, you'll have a bettter chance that your dvd player will play it than if you're putting it on a DVDr. The 'DVD Players' link to the left will tell you what your DVD player is capable of playing

    Besides the fact that DVDs and CDs are both 12cm and both shiny, they have little in common physically. They are burned and read by different lasers. DVD players can often read both because they have two differnet lasers. Your CD burner doesn't... unless it was marketed as a DVD burner/CD burner combo (and those are fairly recent). While the prices have gone down and made DVD burning much more affordable, you still have to buy a new piece of hardware that is capable of burning DVDs.
