  1. Hi.

If my original AVI is in NTSC format then do I have to convert this to PAL as I live in UK?

I have always converted these to PAL but get jerky picture.

Am now thinking I should leave these as NTSC as they may play on my DVD fine.

    Any suggestions please?

  2. Avi files dont necessarily need to be in ntsc or pal since they are not gonna be played by your dvd player...If you're gonna convert them to vcd or svcd, then in TMPGEnc just load the PAl template and you should have a pal vcd which will read perfectly in your dvd player...Unless if you have a multizone dvd player then you can leave your files as ntsc...

  3. Hi,

All my files are converted to VCD/SVCD to watch on UK DVD player.

As I say, sometimes the PAL playback is jerky.
I wondered if I should use NTSC instead.

I also have a 20fps file - not sure how o convert that.

Have you actually converted one to NTSC VCD ?, Why don't you try it ?
Your DVD player plays NTSC so you say, so I guess your TV also displays NTSC?

This will depend on "your" system and the only way your going to find out if its any good is to do it !

I personally convert "Everything" to PAL VCD with TMPGEnc, 14fps,23fps,29fps NTSC to PAL, and apart from a fast pan across the screen, the rest is perfect.

  5. I live in Holland....and my dvd player is capable of playing both NTSC and PAL...so I convert them to the one where they have been ripped in...So Pal stays Pal...and NTSC stays NTSC(only the 23,something I convert to 29, something but TMPGenc does that for me....and otherwis we have Pulldown )

There is only one disadvantage to this...NTSC screen will be a little smaller...and when u cut them with TMPGenc....there will be still some video left at the end without some audio...

Say I cut him at 30 min en 00 seconds....i will stil haven Video van 30 minutes 00 seconds till 30 minutes and 10 second due to the internally speeding up..
