i have managed to do a burn okay onto 3 discs for svcd my first disc stops sometimes and the picture breaks up i burn at 4 times speed what am i doing wrong also can you only burn onto a cd writable disc if you can burn onto a cd disc how do you change it in nero to burn normal cd disc i cant seem to do it it only says cdr re writable disc that i can burn onto i have done 3 reritable discs for my film

1) burning a cd-r and cd-rw is basically the same...you can treat them essentially as the same..the only difference is that the cd-rw can be erased

nero shouldn't have a problem w/ cd-r or cd-rw...in fact, there's no difference for nero to burn on either format...just burn the same way

2) look at the dvd players compatibility section on this website to see if your dvd player can even play SVCD

3) look at your original rip on your harddrive, does the picture in that also break up?

4) as for the picture breaking up, it could be the brand of media u using...also, when you're burning, make sure your buffer doesn't get too low...in other words, don't do anything on your comp when you're burning, otherwise, you risk getting a buffer underrun...even if you don't get a buffer underrun, a low buffer can sometimes cause green blocks on the video

thanks i have just bought a brand new dvd by scan the 440 and it covers all discs media you can put anything in it and it will play how can i tell nero just to burn a normal cdr and not a cdwritable how do i change the settings

there are no settings.... just put in either cd-r in your burner or cd-rw in your burner, depending on which kind u wanna burn....

cd-r and cd-rw cannot be on the same CD..they are different types of CD

most svcds are encoded at 480x480, but some templates out there do it at 480x576, some players cannot handle the change. this would also cause it to break up on playback. is that the problem? hope that helped.

best type of media for cd-r would be those "made in japan," which should be labeled on the container the cd-r's come in. they are taiyo undens. fuji brand cd-r are usually taiyo undens, but you should check for the "made in japan" on the label to make sure. if it's "made in taiwan", then it's basically generic.

i've had no problems burning on "made in taiwan" cd-r's, so that shouldn't be a problem.

as for tmpgenc settings, you should check the templates on this website....some of them can be good for you to use. once you find a template you like, you can load it into tmpgenc, and it makes all the correct settings for u.

ALSO, DID YOU PLAY YOUR DVD RIP ON YOUR COMPUTER? WAS IT MESSED UP LIKE WHEN YOU PLAYED IT ON YOUR STANDALONE DVD PLAYER? this question is really important to determine if you encoded the movie wrong, or you burned it wrong (or even if your standalone dvd player just plain sucks)
