  1. I want to get a tv capture card for recording tv progs ,dv camera and
    tranfering
holiday videos to svcd (mpeg2). I read that the win haupage was supposed to be exellant for svcd s. But after reading users comments it was rather mixed ratings .
I do not need the digital channels that are provided with the WinTV - Nova-T PCI .
any comments on win or other suggested cards that does what I want and where to buy would be appreciated.

Again, unfortunately, some of those reviews are writting by folks who cannot (for whatever reason) get their cards to function properly. It's not ALWAYS a fault of the card. I had a few installation issues with my WINTV card but I had the patience to figure it out. I think that card (Wintv FM radio) performs fine. I bought mine off ebay for $60.

How much are you willing to spend? Personally, I capture the same stuff that you listed (tv, dv and VHS) and I used to capture with TV cards (I've tried three in fact.) In April, I got the Canopus ADVC-100 and never looked back. It will capture everything that you listed and do it at 720x480. Also the quality of the captures are far superior to TV capture cards. It's not a tuner so you will have to run it through a VCR or something that can tune. If you have the money (around $280) then get this box.

[Its the highest user rated Capture Card on this site.]
