I'm interested in ripping DVDs to my hard drive...but that's as far as I want to go. I'm not interested in converting to (S)VCD. What's the best format to keep movies to watch from my hard drive...keeping a good balance between quality and file size?
Thanks!

For personal viewing on the PC dixv/vxid/or other mpeg4 coded is the way to go.
If you ever want to output to TV or use in a standalone I would recommend you revist SVCD/VCD options.
