First of all tell me how you encode the movie ( progs, settings etc. ).

But you can try to switch your TV to 16/9 output or your DVD-Player

The problem is with your conversion, you are not maintaining the aspect ratio. If you are using a VCD authoring program to do the conversion... then don't ! Use TMPGEnc, but make sure that you have full screen > keep aspect ratio.

The conversion will have black borders at the top and bottom, but when played on a widescreen TV, you can zoom them out

OK, load the movie into TMPGEnc, Load a PAL/NTSC VCD template and select File > Preview

If its wrong, then you have changed the settings somewhere, as the default settings should already be OK

Now go to Setting > Advanced
You can see the source aspect ratio there. (1:1VGA) ?
And the "video arrange method (Full screen (Keep aspect ration)" ?

    You can also experiment
Setting > Advanced > Double click (Clip Frame)

You can now see the move and change the settings (Arrange setting)
The default is full screen > keep aspect ratio

On a widsceen tv it would be full screen , you zoom in to get rid of the black boarders, this is a VCD not a DVD

PAL VCD 352x288 (With black borders at top and bottom)
NTSC VCD 352x240 (With black borders at top and bottom)

I've recorded a lot of old and new videos from vcr and dv camera as mpeg2 720x480 and 352x 240 with tmpeg plus, and burned them as a non standard in nero and they look great on my 16x9.The only problem is the file size is not accurate.I tried a 45 minute movie and it would not play, but one i made that was 38 min. plays ok.
The 45 minute movie i reencoded as an mpeg1 and it was fine.
