i decided to see what this IRC is all about...the impression i got was it was like some form of Kazzaa or direct connect or something like that...here's where i'm lost...i downloaded the program and found the server i needed then the channel i needed but what i got was a bunch of squares and short sentences and mainly garbled language with an entire list on the right of what appeared to be other people...where do i go from here???basically i went to another website that has music videos that were captured from tv in other countries...these music vids they don't play where i'm at so there's NO other way for me to even see the vids...anyway, on the site it had numerous vids but said i needed IRC to download them...a few vids they had posted on the site but that was all they could do (space)...where do i need to go on IRC from here???

Check out here:

Gives you a good point to start from. -
Trust me, IRC is much more difficult to understand than Kazaa or Direct Connect.
Anyways, go here http://invision.lebyte.com/
Download Invision 2.0... It is an easy script to use when using mIRC. Now once you get it going, go to the options and make a "nickname" and choose which server you would like to be connecting to. Personally i would suggest DALnet, it's easier for beginners. Plus when searching, there's a lot on DALnet. Once you do what you gotta do in options, then connect.
Now, when you've finally connected, in the only box that is on the screen in front of you....Type something like this an example: /list movies
You will now have a list of a whole bunch of channels that are serving the latest movies, as well as older, cartoons, t.v. shows, video games, warez etc.
O-K, now enter any one of those channels and ask someone how to register your nickname. Once you have registered your nick and get your password in your e-mail, remember it, because you will need to identify your nick w/the password everytime you connect. Most of the "big time" channels require you to have a registered nick.
Also, make sure that before you start typing stuff and looking for stuff in any channel, make sure you ask an OP what the rules for that particular channel are. Different channels may vary and allow different things in their rooms.
Hope i've helped and i know that what i just said, seems like a lot to take in. But once you get the hang of it, you won't want to go back to Kazaa or anything else. If you think about it....Everything that is on Kazaa/P2P progs came from IRC first.
Also, if you have any trouble check out the website above for assistance. Or just PM me and i'll try to help you as best i can. -
yep! still lost...i know nothing about scrpt and those things...i am not so sure if this is what i'm looking for...is it like a chat program whereas i ask someone if they have a file that i can get from them? i hate sitting around chatting if thats the case...i guess thats the plus side of p2p like kazza, you just click and there it is...or am i wrong in my thinking of what the irc is???

It's ok, i was really lost at first also.
A script is just your backdrop surroundings on your desktop. It's like running a program that's all. The channels in IRC are like chat rooms. But in the channels that serve movies and appz, people don't really talk. When you're in a channel, a person will type a trigger message.(you cant miss it because it says the word trigger, then their message)
For example: Triggervcdhelp is cool)
All you do is copy "vcdhelp is cool" without the brackets, and paste it on the channel box and enter that trigger into the room by pressing ENTER. What this will do is open a directory box on your screen with all the things this person is sharing. Then all you do is double-click on the file you want and that's it. The file will either immediately start sending or you will have to wait in line.(also called a queue)
-------------------------------------------------------------
You are right, P2P programs are a little bit easier. But once you get the hang of this, you won't go back. IRC is more reliable and you could find way more stuff, way before it hits P2P progs. When looking in the right places, you could find just about anything you want...New/Old! -
Just go to http://www.slyck.com and click irc on the left and follow through and read the tutorial ... its like 6 small pages with pictures and stuff and should help you out. Also don't use DALnut, use EFnet. (/server irc.qeast.net)
