  1. I have tried many methods to backup different films to DVD-R and none of them are recognised in my normal DVD drive or PS2. Only my DVDR drive plays the films. Any suggestions as to why? This is really irritating me now!

  2. Many current DVD-rom drives will not read DVD-r (or DVD+r for that matter) simply due to the different physical media. The same is true of standalone players. Newer drives/players are more likley to be able to read them, check the specs before buying.

NOTE: I won't put any numbers on 'old' and 'new' but please be clear, it is when the drive was designed, not purchased, that matters!

  3. also it seems that the dvd-r market is just full to the brim of crap quality media. my general rule is you get what you pay for, and these brands that cost pennies aren't even good to wipe your ass on.

of course there are exceptions to the rule so you just need to look around, try looking for companies that sell sampler packs so you can try a few different brands at once.

  4. The DVD drive I test out my films on reads DVD's when normal Data is written onto them just not films. Does this mean it is a problem with the authoring?

  5. could be. what program are you using to author? and what exactly are you trying to put onto the dvd-video disc?

  6. I'm using DVD Decrypter to demux the files (Black Hawk Down, UK), ReMpeg to compress, Spruce Up to create a simple menu and Ifo Edit to correct the ifos. Finally using Nero 5.5.9.9 to burn the vobs and ifos that Spruce creates. Also tried doing Hackers which is less than 4.7 gigs. Ripped it, used ifo edit to created completely new ifos and used Nero to burn.

    Thanks again.

    I have a similar issue.
In my Pioneer DVR-A04, the DVD-RW I burn, plays fine. The DVD-R with the same files, does not play at all.
BUT: if I play it through my 2-year old domestic Pioneer DV-434, they both play without problems.

I only found that out by accident, after discarding several good burns, just because they wouldn't play on my PC. Now I test the burn on a DVD-RW on my PC, then duplicate the same burn to DVD-R...
    My system:
    Abit Ic7G
    P4 3.0C @ 3.98 GHz
    2x512 MB DDR 500 ram
    WinXP Pro
    ATI Radeon X800pro
    5x120 GB Western Digital ata100
    TDK Velocd 48x16x44
    Sony 8x DVD burner

  8. i have tried many sorts of DVD player and none work. Even ones that play "backup" films from "the market" will not play mine. My DVD drive reads the Data discs I burn. not the films though.
