  1. Whenever I try to run a VCD (self created), the DVD player pops up the MP3 Menu. After that, I have no luck in selecting the MPG files on the CD or view them.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.. or why the MP3 Menu is popping up and how to view the files on the VCD?

I used Dazzle 80 Video Creator (which connects via USB) on Windows XP platform to capture the video file. Then, I converted the capture to VCD format using the MovieMaker software provided by Dazzle. I also tried converting the capture to MPEG-1 and still had the same problems.

    Any help will be appreciated..

    Thanks

Was your Apex manufactured after April 2002? If it was, it won't play VCD.

  3. I think it was manufactured before April 2002. But it does say in the instruction manual that it can play VCD

In which case, try your VCD on another player to make sure the problem does not lie with the VCD. If I have a VCD compliant mpeg I create the VCD with Nero, which always seems to work with players that play VCD.

  5. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP YOU BUT I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I BASICALLY JUST USE THE NERO BURNING PROGRAM WHICH WORKED GREAT WITH THE PANSONIC RECORDER I HAVE . HOWEVER MY SON HAS AN APEX 1500. I WAS TOLD BY AN APEX TECH THAT I WAS USING THE WRONG FORMAT WOULD NOT TELL ME WHAT THE RIGHT FORMAT WAS OR HOW TO DO THE RIGHT FORMAT. REFERRED ME TO VCDHELPER.COM SO IF U CAN FIND OUT WHAT THE RIGHT FORMAT IS & HOW TO CONVERT TO IT IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

I have a APEX 1500, and I always burn with Nero...the 1500 plays anything I put in it...VCD, nonstandardVCD, SVCD, mp3....you name it.

I think that you are not using VCD format....You know that a VCD is NOT just a movie burnt to disc (not even a mpeg1 burnt to disc)...Must be in a specific format to work...Nero does it automaticly...Just choose VCD at the begining, and when it asks supply your mpeg1 (VCD compatable) movie file....and burn.

  7. thank you for the help. I have just one more question Are you downloading movies off the Kaaza web site and then using Nero to burn to disc

  8. I've got no response on the threads where I asked about other apex players --- but on the 5131, if all else fails with vcd's, simply burning it as as iso with the .mpg files on it, will work. Whether or not that is the case on the 1500 I don't know.

    MARSHAMELLOW1047:
If I download a mpg off Kazaa thats fairly good quality I'll burn as is with NERO but uncheck "compliant" on first tab after you select VCD. Unless you know the file is fully VCD compliant....By the way this is subjective ...but for me.. to be of descent quality the file you download should be 600mb or bigger for a 90min movie, or the resulting VCD will be poor quality.
If its an avi... I convert to mpg using TMPG before burning with NERO...Nero will encode file to VCD compliant on its own....but to me TMPG does a much better job and allows for more tweaking than Nero.
The majority of my movies would be Nonstandard VCD made from DVD rips...Nonstandard because I've lowered the bitrate and used a varible bitrate during the encoding.

    turbodood:
I'll stick a ISO CD with a mpg file on it in my player tonight and see if it will play...I know it will NOT play a avi off a standard ISO CD..tried that one.

  10. Well duh I knoew it won't play an avi. Its really a shame too that nobody has tried marketing more of a true 'media player', and not just a dvd/mpg player.

My Apex 1500 will not play mpg files burned as data iso. VCD compatable mpeg1 or not makes no difference....

  12. A tip I found on this 1100 I got. Usually it will pickup the iso mpg files, but if not here is what you do. Put in an MP3 disc, this will get it into the file browser moded. Go into setup, and whilest there put in the mpg disc. After that exit setup, and with any luck now it will still be in the mp3 browser, only now with the mpg files selectable.
