  1. I have searched all over this great site for how to's on permanent subtitles, but can't find a sattisfying answer.

How can I add permanent (not switchable SVCD/CVD) to an mpg stream? Adding with virtualdub only works with VCD (MPEG1) streams. And do I have to re-encode the entire movie (again)?

I wonder if there isn't a simple mux program that adds permanent subtitles to any mpg stream. And if so, how long does the conversion take?

Hope you guys can help me out.

  2. I use DVD2SVCD to create all my SVCDs (also does VCD). It has the option to do permanent subtitles. This is actually a suite of seperate programs, and since I'm at work now I cannot verify the exact subtitle step, but I can highly recommend DVD2SVCD.

DVD2SVCD used a program called WinSubMux - it takes an MPG stream and uses the *.SUB (subtitle file). -it's pretty quick- about the same length of time it takes to re-mux.
I think it only works with MPEG2 (CVD/SVCD) files, and I'm not sure if they are permanent.
Go here- http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software.htm and scroll down to "Subtitles" - you can probably find what you need there.
    You can't fool me, I'm a moron!

  4. There is an option within DVD2SVCD to make your subs permanent, but I don't know the procedure when running WinSubMux by itself.

  5. Do you want to add subs to a file that you convert from avi to mpeg? If that's the case, try the following guide:

  6. Thanks you all.

I haven't tried dvd->svcd yet, but will try DVD2SVCD for that.

From AVI to SVCD with I allready succesfully did that with virtaldub and frameserved to TMPGenc.

My question was concerning allready made (or downloaded) MPEG2 files and then add subtitles (PERMANENT, not CVD/switchable cause that's not supported by my pioneer 454). I still wonder if that's possible without complete re-encoding? If so, which program should I use? I allready puzled with winsubmux, but that's not able to add PERMANENT subs, only switchable.

    Hope to receive further help/recommendations....
