  1. My Pioneer DVD-R(W) A04 will only burn x1 DVD-R.
    My operating system is XP.
Does anyone know why this is happening.

You are using only media capable of being burned at 1X. Go out to CompUSA and buy a 10pk of TDK (real TDK) disks that will burn at 2X for $29.99. Throw this at your burner and watch the 2X burn fly!

  3. Or go to the pioneer website and download the updated firmware, buy the 4X media and burn them at 4x. You must download the firmware or the burner will fry at 4X.

Actually the firmware only allows you to use 4x media. You still will only be able to record at 2X.

Imagine my thrill and joy to place the 2X TDK in the drive and watch the 2X indicator illuminate in Nero.

Ah, the simple pleasures of life......

...but for 3 bucks a peice, think I'll stick with the accu's at cdrdvdr.com, these are lead data's and I haven't had a lick of trouble with them, and at .84 delivered well......
