    how can i capture video without a capture card or a tv card?
    it is possible too capture pictures using programs like powerdvd so why isn't it possible too capture videos?
    you probably think i am a complete thicko!!!

    What is it you want to capture?

    Software DVD players maybe have the function
    of saving one frame as a picture.

    But for copywright rules would never allow
    you to save every frame.

    Not needed as a few years ago we found out the "key" DVDs use
    to encrypt.

  3. You need capture card to capture (take video from outside PC - VCR, sat, air) and also to take pictures from otside. You don't need capture card to rip DVD (ie. to save it's contents to Your HD).

    cheers me old chums, i knew it was a stupid question,i just wondered if it was poss too record/capture a dvd whilst watching it maybe using virtual dub for example,instead of ripping it with a ripper program which im more than competenet at doing.

  5. Use smartripper, I say it again : use Smartripper !!!!

    There are programs out there that capture everyframe on the screen.
    and save it as a huge AVI.

    These programs created was so you could capture how a person work
    on his PC and save it as a education video.

    I think you will have more problems with these programs, like
    directdraw etc.
