I need to be able to copy vob files from one DVD-R to a new one. Here's the situation:
I record a DVD-R in the field with a Panasonic E-30 DVD-R recorder, and it has several recording sessions on it. (multiple vob files)
As a for-instance, let's say I then need to copy ONE, and ONLY one of those vob files to a new DVD-R.
I need to have something that I can simply drag ONE vob file from the source DVD-R to the blank DVD-R. The program MUST take care of everything else, and the resulting DVD-R MUST be playable in a typical DVD player.
This needs to be as simple as possible, the people who will be making the copies are computer illiterates.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have,
Scott Cooper

AFAIK, it cant be done, not the way you describe. I am no expert on DVD ripping but I believ it will not play on a standalone DVD player unles you have correct .ifo and .bup files.
Maybe others can provide more help or try www.doom9.org -
I realize that you can't just copy the vob files and have it play, but it should be trivial for a program to take those vob files and CREATE the .ifo and .bup files for you. Surely there's SOME way to accomplish this.

just use a authoring program such as spruce up ...scenarist...or maestro
they all will produce ifo files for the video/audio streams.......also u could create your own menu and chapter points(if u so desired) -

Is it just me, or does that sound silly? That's TWO conversions when you should'nt have any, and I assume that's also costing you in compression loss, since MPEG is a "lossy" compression. Even if it's not costing quality, it's sure gonna cost TIME for the double conversion.
Let's take this method step by step:
1- Take the original vob file from the DVD-R and convert to MPEG
2- Take the MPEG file to the authoring program
3- The authoring program RECONVERTS the MPEG back to a vob
4- The authoring program burns a new DVD-R
I guess my main point is WHY can't the authoring program take the original vob file and burn the disk? Why the extra steps??

I use IfoEdit and just rip the vobs to my hd and strip out what I don't want, have IfoEdit create new IFO and BUP files and burn back to DVDR with Nero. There should be no need to re-encode to mpeg.
