  1. Just read about Sony's new CDR/CDRW/DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW burner.

The article is in Dutch and basically says that the burner will read write to the above mentioned media and that the price and release date are not yet known.

    Maybe I should have waited...

  3. I did say 'maybe'. In fact I am really happy with my HP DVD200i.

I'm not suprised about Sony releasing an all in one drive and expect others shall follow. It would be nice to do PC backup stuff on DVD+RW and video projects on cheaper DVD-R media though. DVD-R media are *much* cheaper than DVD+R(W) media here in Holland.

As for the teething problems, I couldn't agree with you more. Thats why I waited for the second generation HP drive before buying.

    All the best,

    Chris

  4. I would like to see it before I believe it...

I can believe in a drive that can READ both +R/W and -R/W but I'm somewhat surprised that there will be one that can WRITE to both.

    Regards.

    That's a pretty sweet price

I dunno about Sony though. They're all into doing the "right" thing. They wanna stop people from illegally copying stuff. This, plus the prices of +R/W drives, is what steered me away from buying one. For now im more than happy with my Pioneer DVR-104. Maybe i'll take a look at what Sony is offering though in the future.

Same here. I'm all for 4x DVD-R writing, no matter which company it comes from .

So, what's that like 15 minutes to write a full DVD-R? Nice.

  9. This drive looks really good, a friend of mine bought a Pioneer A04, and burning DVD's is ... surreal . Really good. And now, when i finally get the money (i hope to spend it the best way), i can get a DVD Recorder not only better but cheaper.

(The official price of A04 is $499 and you can get an OEM drive for 250. The Sony's DVD±RW Drive DRU500A has an official price of 349.99 so i'm waiting to the official release to find how much cost the OEM version!!!)

You can even get an A04 retail for $290, if you look hard enough.
