  1. Every time I make a SVCD the MPEG I comes out to
about 1.5 gig or so...so it takes 3 cds..

Is there any way to get it to fit on 2 cd's?? I have 700 meg cd's....

vcds quality is not as good as svcd but i like it better cause i can get them on 2 cd's

thank you in advance for any help

You could encode at a constant/controlled bitrate of 1.8Mbps and get about 52 - 55 minutes of video on a single CD, provided your resolution is 352x480 and you encode from a film source of 24fps wherein you'd utilize 3:2 pulldown in your MPEG-2 encode.

I just did one-third of Cast Away today and the file is 763mb.

  4. I can fit 60 Min. EAsy w/ 23.976 fps, using 480x480 resolution..too bad too many people here criticize or I would make my template available to others..
And by the way..My X-men rip looked 100% like the DVD..FYI.. Later.

  5. first of all, where u aware that 700mb cds will get u 796mb (NOT OVERBURNED) when making svcd. really, u should be able to get 50-60mins using 2+pass VBR

  7. Well you could also try other resolutions as well if your player plays them (not exactly spec but I haven't seen a player that plays 480x480 svcd's yet that choked on 352x480). Then you can use a little lower bit rate. I have several sxvcd's that have 60-65 minutes on them using 352x480.

  8. I used 352x480 for a long time..good quality no doubt..but I notice it is softer and not as sharp. I really cant explain, all I know is when I made my new template, it blew all my 352x480 Movies out of the water, by far. Hmm..Is there a way for me to just cut a clip of one of my videos to send as an example?

  9. Can you machine handle xSVCD's ?

if so you can easily do a 2Pass VBR at 352x480 or 352x240 that will fit on 2 cd's an look as good as the 3 cd-r version.

if it's a movie over 1.5 hrs you will probably have to go with 352x240 if the movie is less than 1.5 hrs you can get away with 352x480 -- and fiddle with the bitrate max/min's

  10. For me: 2hrs=2CD's (DVD Quality of course)

  11. Well I actually fit Shaft (the new one 99 min I think) onto one cd using LSX 3.5 and 352x240 @ 23.976 fps then used pulldown to make it 29.97 (yes you CAN do this, most software players have a problem with ???x240 + pulldown but most hardware players, at least my apex, I don't think will have a problem.) Granted there was a slight banding in the colors (very little blockiness however) but not very noticeable from my viewing distance of bout 8 ft on 27 in tv.
