Use smartripper to rip the VOB's then use DvdX to convert them to Mpeg 1 (VCD)
fast....
Oh, you don't use those codec's on mpeg 1's just on AVI, then I would use the DivX Mpeg 4 (Low motion) bitrate 600, but only if I wanted an AVI, if going to VCD then convert the VOB's to mpeg 1 not to AVI -

Excuse me King, but let me ask you something. What's the difference between converting with DvdX and TMPGenc (MPG1 format)? Which one is better? Which one is fastest?
In my opinion DvdX is slower when converting to VCD (I am using version 1.7) than TMPG.
However, DvdX allows you the use of subtitles directly from your DVD. So you don't have to use another software to include subtitles, so you skip a step.
I would like to know your opinion.
Thx

Ah, well I started using it for the first time with V2 (Pentium 4)
Ok, just done a quick test with the Shriek DVD
TMPGEnc
Shrek VOB 1
Playing Time 16 Min
Settings VCD Template
Other (volume increased to 400%)
Conversion time 14 minuets
DvdX
Shrek VOB 1
Playing Time 16 Min
Settings VCD
Other (volume increased 6)
Conversion time 12 minuets
Left it to settle down for a few minuets before taking total time. -
Hi:
So version 2.0 of DvdX is faster than previous 1.7
I just downloaded V2.0 P4, but have not proved it yet. I will check on that.
TMPGEnc is a good software, I like it. However, it does not allow you the use of subtitles without adding more steps to your conversion. This is a down for us, the people who don't speak Englishor English is not their main language.
If DvdX give me the quality of TMPGEnc and the time for conversion is not much longer with DvdX, then I will use it.
Thanks for your advice and time.

Well I don’t know about the old one, started with V2. I like smartripper, and I use TMPGEnc all the time for other conversions. I have a 2Gb limit with Win98SE so have part VOB's and like to use the ifo's with DvdX.. Don’t need the SUB's, in fact I never rip them
As for quality, I don’t think there can be any difference speed for speed, its only when you start adding brightness and things that the time goes up. I use them as they are, TV is HQ so gives good display even if they look a little dark on PC. But what's good today, there is always something better tomorrow. I guess it will be down to your own preferences with the programs, as long as they are about the same in speed.
