ATImpeg/tempeg/premierHELP:)

Hi, being a bit new to all this iam having a bit of a problem which i hope someone out there could help with? What I would like to do is take video from camera to premier 5.1 and make into film
Iam capturing using ati radeon all in wonder card which gives me an ATI mpeg file which seems not to like to work in too many programs and not premier (not sure if premier takes mpeg2 anyway??) so i use tempeg to convert, although iam not sure if iam using this right as i still cant get premier to load the files. I have tried mpeg 1 and 2 in tempeg but still cant solve the problem, and iam going a bit nuts with all the hassle. Could anyone help by giving me the brief outline of how to get a file which is mpeg 2 and in ATI format into premier and if i need to use tempeg how i should set up the info? Any help would be a great BONUS thank you.

I have premier 6 and I stuggled and struggled with it feeling sure I could get it to work (I have an ASUS input/output card). In the end I just gave in and used Video dub to capture the file and then use whatever you want to convert it as per this site.
I know this aint much help but I was told premier was THEE program to get and in the end (for me) it wasn't.
It won't hurt to try a differnt program will it - cos at least you get a break from that annoying program.
