If you need an answer to your question, you need to be more specific with your request.
What are you trying to achieve ??
What software are you using ??? -
Right now I'm waiting on my Pioneer DVD-R to arrive. I've downloaded Movie Factory, Power Director, and VOB trials. Sonic comes bundled. I'll buy whichever works best for me. For VCD I use MMC 7.7, TMPGEnc, and Nero. I want to transfer my VHS movie collection to DVD. For some of them I'll need the 160 minutes you get by dropping the PCM and using MP2 format in TMPGEnc. I'll have to see what low-res looks like and make sure it's compatible, I may use that setting. How do I ensure my prologic receiver will be able to pull the surround signal out the audio stream? Or, maybe I should make sure it's captured first. I'm using a four-head Sony VCR plugged into the composites on my AIW 8500DV. Does this setup capture the original prologic signal?

If your VCR is a Hi-Fi VCR and is currently outputting a Hi-Fi signal, then it should keep the original Pro-Logic sound.

OK, since I should be capturing the surround signal, will the MPEG layer 2 setting in TMPGEnc re-encode that signal? Again, all I'm concerned about is the old pro-logic surround signal Dolby 5 as opposed to 5.1 I guess(?) front l/r, rear r/l, and center, no separate subwoofer channel. I don't care about DTS and what-not.

Let me see...
I had some TV shows that were in AVI format, which I converted to MPEG-1 (for VCD). Originally, the shows were recorded in Dolby Surround. When I played the VCD back, it was able to produce Dolby Surround. I'm assuming, that TMPGEnc will be able to do the same. MPEG sound is used for both DVD and VCD, right? If so, then the surround will make it through. -
Thanks, I guess I should pick a film where the surround doesn't matter and see. I just hate wasting DVD-R's!
