Here are my observations, I have the VisionTek Ti 4600 card, it has ViVO so I have been trying to get a good software to capture some TV Eps of shows I like.
I have tried VirtualDub using Huffyuv codec ( as described in the Guide on How to Capture ) the result was not that good at all ( keep in mind my processor is a PIII800 ), then I tried AVI_IO with other codecs, same problem ( picture is a little fuzzy )
Then I decided to try the PowerVCRII 3.0 ( demo off the website ), picture looked pretty good using the VCD setting, then I tried MPEG2 capture ( especially since I have been reading everywhere that you need a pretty good processor to get a good quality cap using MPEG2 ) that looked pretty nice but the video would freeze on & off.
Then I decided to try WinDVR 2.0 ( from InterVideo )demo from the website,
First - VCD capture - looks really good ( unless I watch the video in Full Screen 1280x1024 ) then I tried DVD Quality MPEG 2 ( one of their settings ) capture came out perfect & I did not have the video freeze on me as it did with PowerVCR ) Then I tried MPEG2 with like 8Mbit rate, Excellent quality & still no freezes. ( Except for the files size but that is expected )
I am not trying to pump up WinDVR but I will say this, whatever they have done with that program they did a really good job, honestly.
I have tried the WinDVR 1.5 last year when I had the ATI Radeon card & it was bad.
At this point I just have to find that program ( full version so I can try capturing for about 1.5 hr ( limitation on the Demo is 5 min )) and see how it will come out before I go out & spend $50.00 for the software. But if even the full version is just as good I think it is worth the money.
Anyhow, I decided to share this with everyone so others can check it out too.
HTH someone.
Spooky
P.S. Now I do not work for them![]()
