  1. when i want to download a movie do i look for dvd ripped first then avi then mpeg etc what should my first choice be and second how can i tell if it had been dvd ripped. can i rip my own dvd with just a cd writer or do i need a dvd writer

    Looking for descriptions that say "dvd rip" may tell you its better quality than some others....but not everything is as labeled.....Download avi's or mpg's...but look for ones that are at least 600mb or larger for a quality movie file.

    DVD ripping is just the first stage of making a VCD from a DVD....The ripping is the process of copying the files from the DVD to the hard drive...this usally involves unlocking, decrypting and copying all at once by program....For this part a DVD rom drive on your computer is all that is necesary. The last stage...writing or"burning" the VCD requires a CDR or CDRW drive. ( I have skipped stages here...see How to's at left for full desriptions)
