Hi everyone. Been experiencing some hassles using the "mpeg tools" in TmpGenc to join some mpeg 1 files I'm looking to create as a PAL VCD.
The files are fine, their home captured AVI files converted by TMPGenc to VCD PAL mpeg1 standard (using V.255.38.142, but had similar hassles on older version).
I've selected the cut& join tab, gone to edit & followed the start/finish tabs to select particular sections I want to join. For example say I've set File "A" at 21mins 42.44secs & file "B" at 22mins 30secs, to create my new file. They'll join correctly no problems. However, I'm noting that it's only joining the file "A" at 21mins 42secs, rather than at the correct time I'm trying to set. As a result, the only way to correct things is to re-render the entire file "C" in TmpGenc's project wizard & edit out the unwanted footage using the "source editor".
My other hassle happens where ocasonally, 2 bits of footage which are fine separately, will have an audio "pop" where I have merged them together using the "cut & join" facility. When this does happen, I generally have to run the entire joined file through the progect wizard again, so I can find where the audio pop happens & cut the relevant frame out.
Has anyone found any other free cut/join util that'll succesfully join the TMPGenc files togther & not have to re-render everything again?

What your getting is normal, TMPGEnc will not cut at frame level, it jumps to the nearest key frame, it cannot add frames to make up for midway cuts. Programs like Premier, Media Studio etc are needed.
The bleep at the join is also related to the number of frames it has to jump to and sometimes missing audio that it puts back in, this is not normally heard on a DVD player.
If you loaded just one part in only, and cut off the end, then do the same with part 2 but cut off the beginning, then the join would be better later, but naturally this may make the movie having missing parts.
This is why when someone splits a movie, the second part usually has the end of the first part also. -
Thank you King John. I guess I should've expected that, after all it is free, so I shouldn't expect miracles....
I've been quite worried that the audio pops might cause speaker problems like you would get with "pops" on a "wave" file homemade audio CD on a audio CD player. If it doesn't threaten the speaker's that's nice to know.
Currently debating about which DVD player to consider getting, & stuck between the Sony DVP-NS305, or Panasonic RV32. I know the Sony unit could play my computer generated VCD's,(MP3,CDR/RW,VCD,DVD etc.), but I haven't been able to physically test the PAnasonic RV32 to see if it'll play them too. On paper its supposed to be the same MP3,CDR/RW, etc. though it didn't mention VCD's, but the reviews here suggest it should.
Then there's slightly cheaper units like NEC & Samsung, but it seems like Sony & Panasonic are suggested as better brands for home made VCD's like mine. Decision's decisions! -
Yep My Sony works well, just bought it for VCD, it does have 5.1 so does the Hi FI, I might even connect it up one day
but as longs as it plays the VCD and I can hear the sound in both speakers that will do me, if I use surround sound, the dogs bark too much
especially if someone's on the TV knocks a door or rings a door bell
Anyway, I use to buy nothing but Philips at one time, but now only Sony, try to find a shop with one connected up then you can test one of your disks on it.
