I am trying to rip a backup of The Rock and it keeps locking on vob 4. It gets about 50% done then locks. I have tried 4 different rippers and the DVD disk is clean. Is it possible that this DVD will not allow it to be ripped at this section? Perhaps some special coding with the Vob?

    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

  3. hanibal02, when u first open smartripper...do u see a list where smartripper is stating the files on the dvd that it's unlocking?

does it say that it unlocked vob 4...if u didn't encounter any problems initially when opening smartripper..then it was able to succesfully unlock vob 4...i'm guessing there's prolly a scratch on the disk

i was able to rip the rock without any problems (no speical programs other than smartripper...i even use the older version ..i think smartripper v1.13...)

    SmartRipper
    CSS
    DVDDecrypter
    Clad

I used those 4 and the reading of the DVD seems to stop at the same locations. I ripped Antitrust without any trouble but right about half way through the 4th Vob the rippers seem to have trouble.
    thanks for your help

    thanks Poop,
It does unlock them all in the begining. A scratch was the first thing i thought if too but couldn't see nothing wrong with the disk.

So if it unlocks the vob in the begining then it should work then. I did skip vob 4 and it locks on 7 as well. Are there any settings within windows i need to have? Like properties of dvd drive in device manager. I have Sync Data Xfer and DMA both UNchecked. Should either one of those be checked.
    thanks

I have had the same problem with "the iron giant".
I have used smartripper, tried to rip it as a movie, to rip it as a file, to rip the *@x>!* VOB seperately; nothing worked. Then I have used several other programs; all with the same result.

Well, i think is was, indeed, a bad dvd. I just ripped another DVD without any problems. I'll see if i can borrow one from someone to get the last vob i need.

I was able, after a few reboots, to get vob 7 and 4. I just need 5 now. I guess i could go ahead and make the vcd but i would be missing the shower scene where everyone gets killed.

Thanks for all of your replys!

  8. hey guys, did u set "key search" to "once" or "every vob file"?

if you set "key search" to "once" only..u should switch to "every vob file"

Or set the key search to every chapter to be more accurate. I know, it takes longer, but you are on the safe side, if a key is changed within the movie/ a .vob file.
If this dvd is a multiangle dvd, make sure you have choosen the right angle.

  10. Truman, i believe if you set smartripper to "movie" mode...it picks the correct angle for you automatically (err...at least with my experiences)..when i did toy story 1 and picked an angel different than wut smart ripper suggested, the dvd rip was outta sync...after that..i never went against wut smartripper initially picks...unless both the 4:3 and 16:9 versions r on there..then i would have to manually find out which one is the 16:9 version
