Hi all, Im going to be getting a Pioneer DVD Burner, i have a question, ive see it on sites saying DVR-A04 and DVR-104, i want to know whats the difference between the two, also ive seen postings on a 2nd edition A04/104, is there anything to this, my guess its just a package with a firmware update. Let me know. Thanks. :P

Yes the warranties are different. I've heard and read on the pioneer webpage that the 104 (OEM version of the A04) comes with no warranty. The A04 comes with some sort of pioneer warranty. However you may get some sort of warranty from the seller depending on who you buy the 104 from. I would email whoever you plan on buying one from and see what kind of warranty they offer. The A04 comes with a bunch of software and the 104 does not (although some sites are selling it with Nero Burning Rom.)

i've asked this question myself before so i'll tell you. the dvr-104 is the o.e.m. version of the dvr-a04. this is the unit pioneer sells to the other companies like apple to put in their machines. it comes with no cables discs or software. the 104 does'nt even have pioneer written on it! the ao4 is the full retail version with software, cables etc. if i were you i would buy the 104 as it's cheaper, but make sure you get some software and dvd-r's first!

I just bought my DVR-A04 from a local computer store, its come with the drive, installation guide, mounting kits, audio cable, prassi DVD software and 1 "EzStor" brand DVD-R and 1 "EzStor" brand DVD-RW.
I heard that it should come with Pioneer brand DVD-R and DVD-RW disc. I just wonder am I being cheated by the local computer store or not? They told me that the drive does not come with any disc media and the 2 disc included is just a free gift from their own promotion package.
Anyone can confirm that standard DVR-A04 distribution including Pioneer DVD-R and Pioneer DVD-RW media? -
Most retail boxes come with a Pioneer Branded DVD-R and DVD-RW disc. So I dunno whats up with your retail box.
I didn't get a retail box cause everything else in there was useless besides the discs and drive. So I just bought the OEM drive. Pulled out my DVD-RAM and used the existing cables and mounting screws. I already had Nero so I waited for the 5.5.7.8 update and that give it some DVD burning capabilities and options. Good as new.
