1.If a DVD player doesnt support SVCD can I still get a very choppy video and sound!

2.Alright,Im kinda new to this so....I made my first VCD and it was a little choppy but I was happy with it!I made my first SVCD and it was VERY choppy sound and video, just horrable, video and sound stops every second or frizzes.Heres what I did:

    1.Got AVI file from internet

2.AVI to MPG VCD compatible using TMPGE and VirtualDub.(made the vcd works soso)

3.MPG to MPEG2 SVCD compatible using TMPGE and VirtualDub(mpeg2 file works fine on media player)

3.I cut the file using TMPGE then burn with latest NERO on x2 speed using gold CD-R media(works fine on media player, but SVCD plays very choppy)

4.Then I did the same, but I cut the file using TMPGE an BBMPG(same results)

What am I doing wrong here?Is my DVD player able to play SVCD?

    5.By the way,playing with (S)VCD's for the last 2 days cost me about 15 CD-R's ,can I use a CD-RW to test my shit(movies)

6.last 1 ----> What is the most reliable speed to burn VCD SVCD with NERO. x1?
Couse I had some errors burning x1 or maybe is cause i was doing some other shit on the PC while burring.

GOD.. Im a very slow typer and my english sucks,so this is bout 20 min lata from where i started LOL

    Tnx guys.

it depends on your player. some players that don't fully support svcd will just say "no disc", others will try and play it but fail horribly (like you're describing with the choppy vid/aud)

about your dvd player being able to play it, check the "dvd players" list at the site, under the "other" section of the menu. in terms of how you made your svcd, you really killed a lot of quality. first, svcds aren't really good for encoding from divx, as divx quality is far below svcd. garbage in, garbage out. but even that, you went from divx -> mpg1 -> mpg2. you lost quality in encoding to mpg1, and then more from encoding that to mpg2. if you're really set on putting your divxs to mpg2 svcd, i'd recommend doing a straight conversion without the "mpg1 middleman".

you bet. as long as your dvd player can play cdrws (again, check the dvd players list).

my burner is a trusty 4x mitsumi, and in all my 100s of cds burned, i've had maybe 2 or 3 coasters, and those were all my fault [ie. accidentally hitting the reset button the comp. lol.] if you don't have burn proof, i'd think it wise to not do anything on your comp while burning.

    Hi Vivi,

First you should look to the left of this message and read through ALL of the help guides, specifically check the DVD Players guide and check if your model DVD can play SVCD, VCD CDR and CDR-RW.

After reading these help guides I am sure you will succeed creating video Cds.

Also you might try reading and searching the forums before u post a message, there is a gold mine of information here.....then address your question in the correct forum....yours is more appropriate for newby

    Hope this helps

  10. First off, your source sounds like it is a divX .avi file, as no one downloads full 120min movies in uncompressed .avi
Having said that, you are converting from MPEG-4 to VCD, which is MPEG-1. After this you state that you converted the VCD into SVCD, which is MPEG-2. Do you see the problem? MPEG-4 -> MPEG-1 -> MPEG-2 is going to probably cause some heavy quality loss. A divX's audio is an MP3, so that was changed to MP2, twice..another degradation.

Your best bet if you want to do divX to SVCD is to eliminate that unnecessary middle step, making the VCD. Just load the divX and go right to MPEG-2. Still an MPG conversion and if the divX is of bad quality to start with the SVCD isn't going to magically get better. The better your source, the better your final encode. I would suggest reading a DVD2AVI guide to create your own source files. Doom9 is another great site for how-to's and information.....http://www.doom9.net

You may also want to try to be a little more "warm" to the people in the forum. It's often hard to get help if you're being rude.
