  1. Yes I a mvery new to this. I have been reading and reading and using a very expensive trial and error offense as well.
    Destroyed about 30$ in DVD-Rs

    I have a Pioneer DVR- 104
I have a Hitachi DVD Rom drive

I am trying to makea backup of some DVDs I just rented.

I tried to use DUP-DVD I figured it was the easiest. But after two hours it failed and said it could not.

What is the best program out there to use for this ?

I understand that some of the movies are encoded or crypted or whatever you call it for copyright protection.
I just need a good guide I guess that walks me thorugh this process.

As well as a recommendation on the proper program that is compatible with my dvd burner.

    TYAIA !

if you are trying to back up a single layer disc(smaller than 4.7gb) than simply do the following:

1.rip dvd with dvd decrypter (select rip all files)

2.once the dvd is ripped you should be left with a video_ts and sometimes an audio_ts file as well. now open up your dvd burning program. if you have nero(which is compatible with the pioneer 104), select the dvd iso/udf option and put the audio and video ts files onto it and burn. this is how i back up single layer dvd's and they work fine on my sharp 740.

if the dvd is a dual layer, you are going to have to either re-encode the film to fit it on a dvd-r or you are going to have to use ifoedit to shrink it's size. check out the author section of this website for details on how to do this.
oh, and you should test your backups with dvd-rw's first so you stop wasting dvd-r's.

  5. When I ran DVD Decrypter It told me I needed to obtain the proper region firmware code.

I went to the firmware site and extracted it to C:/Pioneer/(filehere)

It still pops up the error about Brute Force like I never installed it. Did I extract it to the wrong place ?

    Thank You

i got that brute force error myself as well. i think it's because you are trying to rip a dvd that is a different region to the drive it's playing in. check the region of both the drive and the disc. if they are both the same region, try another ripping program like smartripper. your drive could be set to the wrong region.
