  1. in the guide SVCD to VCD here at vcdhelp they talk about DVD2AVI and things like that.

Well before I read that I just opened my SVCD mpg file in the video source and audio source field.

Then I loaded the videocd (pal).mcf setting and then unlock.mcf
    Made it VCD-NONSTANDARD
setted the bitrate to the same as in the svcd (2490) (CONSTANT bitrate (CBR)
    also same size: 480x576
VBV buffer size: 40 (can i set this higher with xvcd? its 40 for vcd and 112 for svcd)
and then i chose Motion Search precision: highest quality

I pressed GO waited 6 hours.. then i got a mpeg 1 file wich was 200mb! bigger then the SVCD (????) and it plays great on my pc and cant tell the difference from the SVCD.. but now my problem:

When i use the cut/join option in tmpgenc the quality always goes bad.. (not just with this) so I havent run this on my standalone player yet.

if this XVCD plays on my PC.. will it play good on my TV also or will it not because i didnt use the correct (?) method for converting from SVCD?

(oh yeah one question about source aspect ratio: the bitrate proggie says its 4:3 but when i play it its definatly widescreen.. what should i choose (want to play it on a 4:3 tv) (oh and another about interlace: what to choose for PAL? i know what to choose when its FILM or NTSC but not for PAL)

dont have a clue what you are trying to do -- if you have a svcd - leave it alone , you cant make it "better" by converting it to xvcd ..

anyway what you ended up with is a file that is usless for anything but maybe watching it on your PC ...
because its not a vcd or a svcd or a xvcd or much of anything except a mpeg1 progressive high bit rate mpeg

what where you trying to do ? make it smaller or better or playable on a vcd only stand alone?

  3. Ehm no.
I didnt want to make it better. I wanted to make a high-quality xvcd of a svcd so my standalone player could play it.

The output file is a mpeg1 and i thought because of the high quality it came because of the bitrate.. so i thought i just made a excellent xvcd.

but so what i created is no xvcd? why did it take so long to convert then?
what did it do then in those 6 hours?

    XVCD PAL

    Video:
any kbit/sec MPEG-1 both variable and constant bitrate.
    352 x 288 pixels
    25 frames/second
    Audio:
    32-384 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2
    Extra:
    Menus and chapters

but a VCD is more compatable -- though lower quality ..

if your player can play XVCD - good ....

just re-encode it again to the format above. if you re-encode it with var. bit rate , you will drop the file size. 40 is ok for buffer.

  5. K thnx so my method of converting is good?

and with various bitrate you mean slecting a average and a maximum?
