  1. With Nero version 5.5.9.0 that i downloaded off of download.com you can select to put a avi file into your vcd. I press record and it says it is encoding. Will this play in a dvd player or do i have to convert it to mpeg like all the info on this site tell me about. im a little new at this and very much confused.

Nero also takes time, but the result will be poor. All encoding takes time. To reduce the time, either get a faster computer, or get someone else to do the encoding for you. 8)

Don't get into the habit of using Nero to convert AVI's. It will do some but mostly it makes a bad job of it.

TMPGEnc is very good, using the standard VCD templates for PAL or NTSC it will produce good mpeg 1 outputs that Nero will make a VCD out off

However I can see you have a 1.6 ? is that Intel ? Are you using any of the filters colour change etc, they will add more time to the convertion.

  6. Like John said... TMPGEnc cannot be beat for video quality when
encoding strict VCD 2.0 complient MPEG files! Ive tried them all,
TMPGEnc rules! I use *only* TMPGEnc even in my MEPG-2 for
DVD creation... Maybe not the fastest encoder true, but highest
quality? No one with broad and extensive experience will debate
    that it delivers!!

    Hope that helps...
