I've ripped a DVD and also made my own from camcorder footage. I've burned to DVD+RW from HP, Memorex, and Verbatim.
All 3 brands with both a ripped movie and a home-made movie work fine on my Pioneer players. None of them play on an XBOX. Do I need a modchip or something?

Yes.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
Sinvce when...as long as you have dvd playback kit it technically work. Only reason why it wontread is because the drive doesnt like the media. The Xbox has a fussy dvd drive, iwth many types of media not working for a lot of people. Ability to playback is different for each unit unfortunately, as the quality of the drive varies. Best results are obtained with rw media rather than r. do try a dvd-rw and see how it goes.
