  1. Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem i am having at present

A Little history perhaps I have successfully made vcd's & svcd's in the past with few problems any problems I had I solved using this excellent site many thanks to all .

I use Smartripper , Dvd2avi , Tmpg enc and I use ulead dvd movie factory and as I said have had little or no problems

recently I bought a pioneer a104 dvd recorder and using the above programs tried and in some cases made my own backup dvd's not without making a few coasters, but now I find that while the dvd's I make still play ok I find that after a short while they go out of sync I have tried using goldwave and DB power converter to change the audio flie to wav but still the same problem persists starts of ok after a while goes out of sync is there another program like Tmpg enc I can try my next move is to buy some re writable dvd's to stopmaking coasters I would appreciate any help or advise please

    regards

I'm having the exact same problem with MyFlix XE and DVD Workshop. I've found that the edited file when I'm done with XE is still fine, the problem occurs somewhere during DVD Workshop's actual making of the disc (even when I select "do not convert complaint file").

Since my DVD Workshop and your DVD Movie Factory are from the same company, whatever the problem is, we probably share it.

As to exactly WHAT the problem is, I'm clueless at the moment. Sorry...

    Anyone else have ideas?

Nope, I've got the 1.2 update patch already. It didn't help (unless there's another update since 1.2?). Besides, I had the same problem with MovieFactory and Dazzle DVD Complete.

I'm beginning to wonder if the DVR-104 needs a firmware upgrade?

  5. Hey guys,

I am sorry I can not help but have a question of my own to murphy555. I am using the exact programs you are and have the same burner. My problem is that I can not get audio through the digital connector of my reciever. Analog audio works great but no digital. From what I can find you need to have pcm .wav audio track or .ac3 on the dvd to work through a digital connection. How do I get an .wav file. I have converted my .ac3 file with ac3decoder and then used Tmpgenc to create a dvd file but when i burn still no sound and through smart ripper it says that it is a mpg1 audio track. Am I missing somehting in Tmpgenc to keep it a .wav file. If you or anyone else can help please do so. Thanks a bunch.

    Hi Blindy,

You need an authoring program that lets you use PCM as a sound option. Ulead DVD Workshop 1.2 does this (1.0 does NOT, you'll have to register it then download the upgrade patch).

A cheaper alternative (as in, free) is to simply go to your DVD player's setup menu before playing a home-burned DVD and in the audio output menu, pick "PCM" instead of "AC-3" or "bitstream."

Just remember to set it BACK to AC-3 or bitstream before playing studio-bought DVD's or you'll wonder where your 5.1 channel Dolby Digital went...

I use virtualy the same software as you & don't normaly have any problems.

I rip the dvd with smartripper, rempeg the video to an acceptable size, use Dvd2avi to get a wav audio stream, convert that to mp2 with Scmpx and then join the audio & video streams with TMpeg to create an Mpeg2 file to import into DVD Movie Factory to burn back to dvd.

I do encode imported video with TMpeg and have had a few problems with out if sync audio, but I started using better quality discs and that seemed to cure the problem on the standalone player.

Don't know if that helps any??

    Hi StMcBride,

I think Blindy's problem is his digital receiver (or preamp) doesn't recognize plain old mpeg stereo audio. AC-3 Dolby Digital audio, yes. PCM digital audio, yes. But straight mpeg audio, no.

Mine has the same problem, the player sound output switch I mentioned above does the trick for me.

  9. Thanks for the help but still a bit confused. Bob, you said to get Ulead Workshop 1.2 which handles pcm audio. Does MovieFactory also support pcm audio. If so how do I create a mpg2 file with pcm audio? I can pretty much only use Moviefactory due to limitations with using the computer. Also changing my dvd player over to pcm will not play the mpeg1 sound correct? Thanks a bunch

Nope, I don't think MovieFactory supports putting PCM audio on your discs. Since it's only a $50 program, I guess we really don't have much right to expect it to. DVD Workshop is a $300 program, and we had to wait for the 1.2 update patch to get PCM from it, since the original 1.0 didn't have PCM either.

When you tell your player's setup menu to output PCM, it will take the mpeg audio from your DVD-R disc and convert it to PCM on the fly as your disc plays. And the PCM will be recognized by your digital surround receiver. At least that's the way my discs, player, and surround receiver work

  11. Huh, thanks for the help but one other question. Why do my svcds play through the digital connection if they are also mpeg audio? Thanks

blindy007 - you are asking the same questions in two threads ..

your dvd player will output a digital signal even if the file on the disk is pcm or mpeg or ac3 .. but as mentioned - sometimes you have to adjust your dvd player settings ...

conversly- your analog outputs will play audio even if you only have dolby digital on your disk

yoru dvd player does all the converting ..

if you use the digital output and the source is digital - the dvd player will output directly the stream to the digital output ... but the player is still decoding it to analog anyway ...

you should have settings to turn digital output on/off and to output mpeg audio as pcm and some other settings like that --

  13. Yeah, I posted a topic and then saw this one which answered another question of mine and it seemed to go in the same direction as my earlier post. I did not mean to post two of the same topics. I appricate your guys help but I am still a bit confused. I understand about changing the settings in my player but what I do not unerstand is why are the svcds working with out changing anything and the dvd back ups not working? If the two audio tracks are both mpeg on the svcd and the dvd shouldn't they both just play without changing anything. Maybe I am just a bit slow but I don't understand. Thanks

  14. One thing. Does it being 44K in svcds and 48K in dvds maybe make a difference in why it won't play? Thanks

It very well could. I have to do the audio output switcheroo when I play DVD-R's but not when I play VCD's.
