I am encoding AVIs using Mpeg4v2 with a data rate of 2400bps. These files run fine on my 98 machine. But on my 2000 machine I get this error:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Perflib
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1015
Date: 07/31/2002
Time: 12:19:04
User: N/A
Computer: A
Description:
The timeout waiting for the performance data collection function "PerfOS" in the "C:\WINNT\System32\perfos.dll" Library to finish has expired. There may be a problem with this extensible counter or the service it is collecting data from or the system may have been very busy when this call was attempted.
Even a data rate of 1200 bps gives this.
Files encoded at 300bps play fine though.
The files can be played fine though inside of VirtualDub, so reading the files off of the HD is not the problem. (Considering 2400bps is only 300KB/s, that shouldn't be an issue anyway...)
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks for your time

Try installing the Nimo codec pack, maybe the codec on 2000 is an original not a hacked vertion ?
-
V2 shouldn't need a hack..
Files play fine with any other player, so something else is goofy..
THANKS for that link though, I am going to install it anyway! -
Everything in this game needs a hack
who knows what M$ installs without you knowing

Well, I just realized now it works fine without doing anything...
I'm not certain if I installed any service packs or security fixes in the last five days... It's a clean install of 2000 Pro (three weeks ago), and the last reboot was four days ago, so I obviously installed something since I posted that message. Back when it wasn't working, even reboots had no effect.
Though I don't know why a security fix would fix the problem, since it was the data rate that caused the error, not the use of the codec.
And using V2 is perfectly fine with MS, even according to MS themselves. It's V3 that needs a hack.
But after your MS comment, I can't help but wonder how many of your 2,210 posts may have been just ignorant posts on MS...
Or, better put, who knows what hacks install without me knowing...
MS-approved legit codec usages don't require hacks... -
