  1. I'm trying to capture an American NTSC tape from my PAL video, which can play NTSC tapes, but I am told outputs a PAL60 signal. Not knowing what this means, I don't know what settings to use. I set up VirtualDub, and have tried framerates of 25, 29.97 and 30fps, but each time seem to get funny interlacing-type artefacts...anyone have any idea if what I am trying to do is possible, and how?!??

    thanks

  2. Hi, you need to use a capture card that supports Pal60 input. On Vdub go to the "source" option where you should be able to see Pal, Ntsc etc.. and make sure you can sellect Pal60. Then you need to de-interlace the capture. Go to filters and add the de-interlace one, then sellect the second option down (can't remember what it is) out of duplicate fields etc.. Then you need to tick the "enable rgb filtering" option.

Let me know how you get on as I'm playing with this myself at the mo.

  3. OK, I'm being dumb here. I've installed dscaler and my picture looks fine, but how do I use that to capture?

OK, yes I was being dumb, I've found the record option under Timeshifter.

New question. I'm grabbing Pal60 now quite well but the picture is twice as wide as it should be, so everyone is short and fat?

  4. OK, I'm back again! Got some good results now.

Just using the default settings for Pal60 and capturing using the picvideo mjpeg codec I get a nice capture using dscaler although it's half height. It's a simple matter then though to take it into Vegas Video 3.0 unlock the aspect ratio and render out to vcd!

I've got to write a test disk yet but I finally seem to have a reliable way of capturing from NTSC played on a UK VCR that outputs as Pal60!!!

  5. Hello "quatermass" Deaks

I gave up on this a while ago actually...I can't capture PAL60 as one of my video card options, and I had other fish to fry, so I left it alone. I would be glad to know if you have any luck though!

  6. :P Greetings!

I've been playing with this on and off as there's a few films/series I want that have only been released on ntsc vhs. But I've been particularly keen to get it sorted this week as I should have an NTSC tape in the next day or so of a certain new scifi show by Joss Whedon......

All seems to be working ok so fingers crossed!
