the questions is related to the fact that video quality depends on the quality of the original video. i am currently burning home movies in vcd or svcd with what i consider good and ok quality. i am using a lite-on burner and nero. i am entertaining the possibility of buying a dvd burner. beside the amount of data that you can burn in one single cd; will i see an increase in quality on a dvd formart. more so than on a svcd format?> paying current prices for a burner worth this quality?????
thanks for the opinions![]()

Increases in quality come in the way you encode it, not the media you put it on. If you're willing to put 1 move per DVD, you can get better quality than SVCD (duh....). But SVCD is pretty good quality when done right compared to DVD.
Typically, I put 2 or 3 movies per DVD, so I'd probably get somewhat better video quality with SVCD.
However, I do get the complete 6-channel Dolby Digital soundtrack on the DVD instead of a Dolby ProLogic stereo soundtrack.......
It all boils down to trade-offs and what you want out of it. -
It can be answered with a single word:
SOURCE
And you had the answer in your first sentence. If you can re-encode from the original source to higher quality specs with good results then, yes. Otherwise, no, its just more room on a different media.Have a good one,

DVD-R has it's advantages (being able to fit a movie onto 1 disk)
I want a DVD-R to make DVD-VCD.
DVD recordered in VCD quality (audio at 48,000 though)
