  1. Im wanting peoples opinions on machines to make an ideal Capture machine, which parts would you people recommend. I want to make VCDs or Divx mostly. I want to cap from my satalite and rip DVDs. So far im thinking of a system as follows:
    1.2GHz Athlon 266FSB
Either an Asus or Abit board
768MB to 1GB of DDR Ram
    Maxtor 80GB HD (possibly 2)
    SBLive! 5.1
    16x DVD
    16x CDRW

Only thing Im thinking hard about is the Video Card/Capture device. I want to get an ATI AWI Radeon or Radeon 64MB VIVO.

    Any Advice/Opinions Appreciated.

Everything to me looks good. The Ram may be overkill though. I run 256mb DDR ram and I can cpature 720x480 with no dropped frames. Only reason you would need all that ram is for heavy multitasking or 3D applications, which is why I'm upgrading to 3 gigs soon. Basically I have the same system, minus the motherboard (MSI) and HDD. And for capture cards either will look great. AIW has S-video in/out and the Radeon only has composite, s-video out. Abother thing that you have to keep in mind (which is what I've had fun figuring out) is a lot of Video8 camcorders don't capture frames at high enough res to capture 640x480 or 720x480 and still have a crisp clear image. That is if your using one, like a sony handycam. But if your just into rippin DVD's like ya said you won't have any trouble.
