Hello there
How much does PAL and NTSC play a role in DVD? Can you play either with a standalone DVD player? and so forth.

Check the OTHER | DVD Players section to the left to see which DVD players are capable of both PAL and NTSC video playback. The biggest problem is that the television set in your region may not allow proper playback of video from another region, even if the DVD player can. Some DVD players can do an on-the-fly conversion of PAL-to-NTSC or vice-versa.
The region setting of your DVD player tends to play a much larger role in determining which DVDs you can play. The OTHER | DVD Hacks section can give you some insight into that. It is best to format any S(X)VCD you make to fit your own regional television standard.
