  1. Here is just some of what is included in this new version

    Flexible export options

Adobe MPEG Encoder for easy creation and export of movies for DVDs, Super Video CDs, Video CDs, and cDVDs directly from the Timeline

Tight integration with Apple iDVD and Apple DVD Studio Pro to export files from Adobe Premiere when creating DVDs (Macintosh only)*

Easy DVD authoring with Sonic DVDit! LE**, supporting a wide range of DVD writers and CD-R devices and media (Windows only)

Enhanced Windows Media export support for streaming media in the latest formats (Windows only)

*Apple iDVD and Apple DVD Studio Pro sold separately
**DVDit! LE not included in OEM editions of Adobe Premiere 6.5

This should be worth a look, I've been using Premiere for awhile now with both LSX 2.1 and CCE 2.64 plugin's. Always wondered when Adobe would get into the DVD and XVCD natively.

I wish it could work with my Digital8 Sony-520 camcorder correctly. Meanwhile, video and audio are out of sync by 1 frame each 8 minutes.

Hmm? What's that? MPEG encoder built into Premiere?

I'll take a quick guess - it will be OK quality, but PAINFULLY slow...

I've searched just a bit, I can't find a review... it'll be interesting to see how it performs...

  5. here is the review: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/pdfs/nfhs.pdf

I think the encoder is not actually built into premiere - just a sidepackage?
In any case i have a feeling that it will be slow and of lesser quality then cinema craft

Something is wrong with your firewire card or setup then...

I also have the Digi8-520 camcorder and I've transfered hundreds of hours of video directly into premiere without any problems !!!

I've used it with Miro DV-300, a DV500 and a cheap $30 NEC chip based firewire card and it's never had any problem !!!

Maybe it's your capture system !!

btw Brent Beyeler (developer of bbMPEG) is working on that MainConcept Encoder (he also integrated his bbMPEG-Muxer).

MainConcept also brings out a standalone encoder in august (as Panasonic does too for Mpeg2/Mpeg1).

Just visit the appropriate homepages ...

It is stated that Mainconcept will do realtime encodings on a p4 2.2 GHz machine.

  12. If it can do real time, then motion control is probably going to be set to a lower rate......

LSX does real time on my 2.4ghz P4 but only when in faster mode...

    We shall see !!!

  13. we will have to wait and see. i talked to someone at adobe yesterday, and they said 6.5 should be available in late august.

  14. Adobe Premier 6.5 users can have the standalone encoder for $49! Encoder itself cost $149. If speed is near realtime on a 2.2Ghz and quality is very high as advertized, then it may be worth replacing our buggy CCE. No more frameserving, no more avisynth, etc. But I hope the package will have all the features and quality of avisynth.

...doesn't seem to have multipass VBR, only single-pass (unless that was tucked away under "Advanced"...

    Me no like so far.

I'll have to see it in action, but it definitely will not be the same quality as CCE. If it's based on bbMPEG, it will be "okay", but definitely not superior product...

I guess so long as they outdo Ulead and other halfwit encoders, they'll have a decent package...
