  1. I have a Sony NS300 Dvd Player and on some dvd I have purchased the picture appears to darken and lighten. When it starts to darken the video becomes scrambled and when it lightens again it straightens out. I am a newbie to all this and all help is needed. Im talking about legit DVD's that should play in my player and do play in the Sony PLaystation 2. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
    Let's watch it.......

Take it back the moment the store you got it from opens. No new DVD players should do that out of the box. Since it happens on more than one legitimate DVD, it cannot be a bad disk.

    WRONG!!!!

I thought this was the case with my pioneer, I ended up returning two before I discovered what the problem was...

Are you, by any chance, plugging the DVD into your VCR, or into an "RF" adapter? Sadly, you CAN'T. I wish you could, but you CAN'T...

It's because unless you DIRECTLY plug the DVD into the TV itself (with A/V cables, not thru an adapter), it will set off Macrovison, which makes it get bright/dark like that.

If yours is anything like mine, if you plug the Audio/Video from the DVD - DIRECTLY - into the Audio/Video on the TV, it will work just fine.

P.S. - I had to PURPOSELY buy a new TV that had these ports on it...

    On the contrary, YOU should.

Well, actually, we might BOTH be right... on different models.

If Freedomrider has a certain setup going, and is using certain brands of DVD, I'll bet you diamonds to doughnuts that I'm right.

OR, if Freedomrider has a certain OTHER setup going, he might have YOUR experience.

I just didn't want him making an unnecessary trip in case I WAS right.

BTW: My Apex worked like you say yours does, it worked with an RF adapter but not thru a VCR. My Pioneer, however, will NOT work unless it's DIRECTLY plugged into the TV Audio/Video IN.

    Chill.

You answered your question, you can't run your DVD video through your VCR.All tapes and disks released after 1/1/2000 have macrovision.
