  1. Sorry if this has been asked before.
I have no problems playing movies on my standalone.
    However, the quality is poor.
This is what I'm currently doing:
From a bin/cue file, I use winiso to extract 5 different folders.(CDI,EXT,MPEGAV,SEGMENT and VCD). Then I use TMPEGnc to convert the dat file (in the MPEGAV folder) to a mpeg file. I then burn it with Nero.

This all works fine. However, the quality is bad on my stadalone dvd player.

What can I do to improve the quality?

    Thanks in advance...

I'm confused... so you have a disc in VCD Format (hence the CD with 5 different folders: CDI, EXT, etc.) but you take that, and extract it using WinISO to your hard disk? Then you use TMPGEnc to convert it to MPEG on your computer, then you use Nero to burn it again?

First of all, don't you have your movie in VCD format in the beginning, prior to extracting it back to your hard disk? Why are you extracting it to your hard disk to be RE-encoded?

There's a chance Re-Encoding your movies will degrade quality (or enhance quality if you use the right setting [not default settings]).

  3. Well after I have extracted the bin/cue file (using winiso), I get these 5 folders.
Can I burn a vcd that looks good from the dat file inside the MPEGAV folder?

Take the *.dat file...view it in windows media player.....
Does it look like crap or ok or freaking great???
If it looks crapy...the vcd will be crappy....
If it looks great ...vcd quality will be great.

Its hard to improve someones crappy encode.....but good quality source ...encoded right will produce great VCD.

  5. I did what you said MaDmiZe and the quality looks ok, just like I was getting before.

I guess there is no way to improve or fine tune my movies...

  7. BTW- I tried using CDRWIN to burn a cue file, and my dvd player won't recognize it.
Even though the same cue/bin file contains the 5 folders when it's extracted using Winiso.

If you have a desent looking movie as a dat....you can use some thing like VCDgear (see link under tools) to convert back to mpg...
Then use Nero ...select VCD...then drag and drop your mpg file...
you might want to uncheck vcd compliant (since we have no idea if this file is) then burn..... Thats the way I make all VCDs I have. (Nero from mpeg1)
