  1. Hi, Ive been trying to capture from my camcorder with my wintv card and vdub. I used the huffy codec and it worked great but creates huge files. And the 4 gb limit thing is a pain. I tried the picvideo codec and it worked too but the output has the stupid picvideo logo and web address imbedded in it. Is there a way to get rid of it or is this part of the shareware deal and I have to pay to get rid of it. Are there any other codecs that use compression available out there for free and give decent results? Also I am using the wintv standard mode drivers for win98 and I cannot use overlay mode in vdub. I have to use preview. Does this effect the output avi quality or just what I see when recording. Should I use the wintv wdm drivers or are they inferior and only for compatibility problems. Also, will vdub work with a Pinnacle DC30+ capture card or do I need to use premiere. Sorry for all the questions.

    hi
the message with the picvid encoder is from the non-registered/try out version. you get what you pay for - more or less.
try encoding with the divx encoder it gives better quality avi's and they are smaller - you may have probs converting to mpegs - i'm still working on this.

  3. Thanks, I found out about the picvideo thing. Ive been told not to use a divx codec as it cant be converted to mpeg. Ive since switched to a dc30+ card and Im trying to figure out how to convert its .avi files for use with tmpgenc. Al though they seem like normal avis, they are proprietary and tmpgenc creates an .mpeg with no video but sound. It is a beautiful capture though. No dropped frames and it looks just like the original video. I just need to make it into an .mpeg and I will be set. Someone mentioned a program by LSI? or LSX? I have to search. Thanks.

  4. the lsi or lsx thing you're looking for is Ligos lsx mpeg encoder. I have version 3. it is a little faster than tmpgenc but it doesn't support a lot of audio formats or resizing and other stuff. I have to frameserve from virtualdub which may work for you woth tmpgenc also.

Yes, thats it. I just downloaded the demo last night and it worked great. I did exactly what I wanted. It had no problems with the mjpeg file created with my dc30+. I made a nice vcd with the resulting .mpg file. The only problem is that its $179 for the encoder. Bummer. Are there any other free programs that do this that you know of? Tmpgenc is great except that it wont work with the mjpeg files correctly. Maybe I should sell the dc30+ and get a card that captures directly to mpeg. Any other ideas?

  6. There are cracks to remove the watermark from PicVideo, but I did it to long ago to remember the address. Try a search engine. apachez.net has cracked CCE SP2.5 for encoding mpeg video (not from divx), and Tmpgenc does audio alone very fast (also encodes divx to mpeg).
