I want to make a backup of spiderman with all the extras etc....I have copied the full dvd to my h/d and have also copied just the movie files to my h/d in a different folder
Spiderman full dvd = 6.48g
Movie Only 4.54g
I don't wnat to re-encode too much of the movie as I know it lowers the quality...what I want to do is encode the movie and the etras separately and then put them back together again using IFOEdit and ReMPEG2 only if possible..(maybe also IFO Update )
The main movie only is in

VTS_02_1.vob
VTS_03_1.vob
VTS_04_1.vob
VTS_05_1.vob
The extras are in
VTS_02_1.vob
VTS_03_1.vob
VTS_04_1.vob

I know how to encode just the movie only and put it onto a disk....I would like to know if I have to rip each of the EXTRA'S VOBs ie VTS_02_1.vob VTS_03_1.vob and so on separately....and if so how do you do it, and then reinsert them into IFOEdit with the main movie...so technically the main movie and the extras are all there....is this possible...I know a bit about Rempeg and how to create a cffl file using IFOEdit, but am mystified at tryin to put them all back together again...and if it can be done could someone please tell me a step-by-step guide to it

I consider myself an expert there,and i dont think
you want to try to reencode spydey, cause the bitrate
really isnt that high anyway, even though they used
vbr for it,dont rempeg it cause youll lose so much, and risk
getting a result u wouldnt like anyway...its kinda grainy now -
I was just interested in if it can be done for future reference...I've already backed up spiderman without the extras, but would really like to get into this sort of thing ( stops me from getting bored and makes my brain tick )

Yeah but I'm just curious and intrigued at if it can be done and how...plus I would like everything on one disk if the quality was ok....if not then I would know how to do it in the future

Well, I'll tell you this, just consider yourself lucky, that
alot of the new releases now have all these extras on
one disc, cause if they didnt the studios would be pump
ing them out at real high bitrates, so we couldnt copy
them so easily, dont know waht happened to Triple X,
cause it was supposed to come out on 2 discs, but they
sacrificed it,and a two hr long movie with all the subs n
langs came out just over 4 gigs.... -
so could you possibly please tell me how this can be done

"I consider myself an expert there"...well musher70 if you call yourself an expert why can't you just give me a simple guide to doing what I want, instead of "I give up"....I know what program you are refering to, BUT like I have stated I would like to put everything onto 1 disk if possible....even if Spiderman did turn out to be poor quality ( with the extras + film on one disk ),I would know how to do it for future reference....I thought this was what forums were for...for people to help one another and to gain from other peoples knowledge, and not beating about the bush, stating that you are an expert....if you were such an expert I would kindly appreciate it if you could help me out....

There is one way you could do it...but it requires a bit of messing about.
You want to fit 6.48GB worth of content into 4.3GB which is around a 65% reduction.
Open each .ifo in ifoedit and click on the "Create Tmpg t." button. Do this for I frames only (will take a while). This creates a map of all the I frames for that vob set. (you can use 0.95 for this but 0.88 is easier as Derrow changed how this function works in the later versions).
Next, open up DVD2AVI and create a D2V project for each ifo.
Run TMPGenc, open the D2V project as the video source and load the DVD template. Change the stream type to video only and click on settings (you may need to unlock the template...I do). Under 'rate control' change the bitrate to something that will fit onto a DVD-R (~65% of whatever it was). Go to the "GOP Structure" tab, deselect 'output bitstream...' and 'detect scene change' and select 'force picture type setting'. Click the 'setting' button that is now available.
In the new dialogue click 'load' and load the TMPG template IFOEdit created (for that vob set)...this wil take a little while...then 'OK' everything and encode the video.
The result of all this is a file that you can use with IFO edit to replace the video in the original VOB's. I have done this successfully a number of times with good results (particularly the Walking with Beasts DVD...7.5GB onto 1 DVD-R with all the menus and extras and all with no blocks) 8) -

I think I've found a way to do just what I want....
The single steps that are required:
Demux the VOB file containing your cells you want to transcode, into its cell components.
Grab the cells you want to transcode, and join them to a single VOB file.
Transcode this VOB file with ReMPEG2
Remux the m2v file back into the single (joined) VOB file.
Demux the single VOB file back to its cell components, and move them to the first demuxed cell vob files.
Join all cell-vob files back to a regular VOB file.

Will give it a go some time in the next few days....but if someone else has a quicker way, please let me know

Topic: Spiderman BU. I am just learning various techniques to bu DVDs. I have mostly done captures and created DVDs from my captures and have been able to get decent quality DVDs. My son wanted his own copy and I decided to bu my copy. I just wanted one soundtrack and picture. First try I didn't want chapters, etc. Extracted my video/sound from DVD then used Infoedit to author. Fit perfectly. BUT noticed that copy appears to have a timespan of ~1'35" and original has a timespan of 2 hours plus. Did an 8x view thru copy of movie and it appears intact. (credits at the end of movie etc). Any suggestions?
