  1. How is the quality of a VCD after being made from "DVDx" in comparison to "SmartRipper>DVD2AVI>TMPGEnc"?

I figure, if you have to do 3 steps instead of 1, quality has to be better.

    Thanks for the response.

The logic of three steps is not true in this case.

DVDX is doing the three steps all in one. The TMPGEnc way, is the same, but you are using three programs, because they are not combined.

I have tested both ways once, and I my opinion TMPGEnc is a much better encoder than DVDx.

  3. Yeah, I figures that quality plays a role with a more steps process. It would be nice if we can have it streamline the "Smartripper>DVD2AVI>TMPGEnc" into one like the DVDx does and still have it in better quality. Thanks.

I second that. DVD2SVCD is great . You have to supply the encoder, either TMPGenc or CCE. All other programs, including internal rippers, DVD2AVI, Azid and Lame for audio, bbMPEG for multiplexing and cutting, and VCD Imager for creating cue/bin images are included. Once you have the program set the way you want it you just load the DVD or avi you want to convert and hit GO and you wind up with cue/bin images ready to burnl. You can get the program and read a comprehensive guide on how to use it at http://www.doom9.org

  6. DVD2SVCD is good, but, I like to use seperate programs because i like to author my own (S)VCD's with menus, etc, and DVD2SVCD doesnt give me the option to author it like that. I just rip with Smart Ripper, frameserve with DVD2AVI, encode with TMPGEnc, and author with VCD Easy. Works out pretty good for me, everyones got their own ways and opinions though.

Couldn't you just use DVD2SVCD up to the point of making the MPG's and then author?

Yes you can: select "don't make images". In that case only the Mpeg files created by BBMpeg are the last step of the program.
