  1. What program do I use to display file information, like the encoded aspect ratio. I am trying to encode Star Wars Episode 2, but I want to know what ratio I should set the source to. The source is a divx file. Also is xsvcd better than svcd.

    If you de-multiplex in TMPG you should get all the info you need.Xsvcd is just non standard svcd and yes it can be better but some standalones wont play them, just make sure your dvd is xsvd compliant.

    Source aspect ratio for DivX is always 1:1(VGA).

  4. What about non divx. The movie I'm trying to encode is a telesync avi file with a 480x272 resolution, and it uses compression MPEG-4 V3.

  5. download bitrate viewer from the tools section or you can get elecar mpeg player from elecard.com They both analyze your file for basic characteristics. Bitrate viewer is more throrugh and display abitrate and Q line graph for your vid

    Unless you are working from DVD the first one to try is 1:1(VGA). Try that first.
