  1. My PC's specs : Celeron 850,320 Mb of RAM,20 GB 7200 IDE harddisk,ATI Rage II-C AGP SVGA Card,Creative Vibra 128 Soundcard,ASUS P3B-F Mainboard. I bought WinTV PVR PCI 889 few days ago and I tried to capture videos from my Sony Video8 Handycam (CCD-TRV50R PAL).But everytime I stopped for few seconds and then played back the handycam again, with WinTV2000 apps still in recording mode, the result would be color displacement or even color-loss,only black and white, and sometimes the movie played faster and slower with the audio not synchronize with the video, all of these problems started from the frame when I stopped and then played back the handycam again. I tried all of these tests in both Win98 SE and WinXP Professional, convert to both MPEG1 and MPEG2 format, and have used the newest driver and WinTV2000 apps from Hauppauge, but the problems still occur. I tried to use VirtualDub and capture the videos to AVI with same stop and playback sequence, but it worked flawlessly, but using this method I have to give away my HD's space and time also. Does anybody ever experience this problem too, isn't WinTV PVR PCI 889 supposed to have realtime MPEG1/MPEG2 hardware encoder ? I have send email to the Hauppauge's techsupport few days but got no answer until now. Please advice. Thank you.

ntonix how dose work with TV tuner and other input? other then the your handycam, As for Handycam this been well know probem with some Cam no wanting to work rigth with WinTV-PVR.

    Look at Panash post http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=99809
(But the WinTV-PVR really seemed to suit a friends Digital-8 camcorder for some unknown reason) but his cam will not work with PVR for some off reson.

The first rule of all rules you need stop the WinTV2000 recording first then give a few sec before stopping the Handycam.

  5. well I have the WINTV PVR and use a HI8mm Sony camcorder and capture anything I want with good result in MPEG1, Great in MPEG2 2520 and fantastic at 704x480 at 5000 bitrate, never had any the problem your going through, plus I capture what ever I want with this card with never a problem, laser disc, DVD, Hi8mm, 8mm, Dishnet, Betamax, I use WIN98 and just swithed to WIN98SE, now I also use the Manual settings I got from happuage German web site also, before that this card was a handful, plus do not use the upgraded software on their web site, I use the 1.2 version on the disc then upgrade the PVR with 45xxx thats on the disc then add the reg hacks, boom works great, love the idea I can change any of the settings, note: make sure to change the throttle setting from 0.0080 to 0.0070, for some reason this really improves the preformance on MPEG1 and MPEG2 captures. In the last year I have made over 200 SVCD MPEG2 captures (mostly from DVD) and they look and sound great, even on a 46in. big screen.
I hear alot of negitive problems with this card maybe I just got lucky and hit the right settings, but no compliants here.

I have follow your suggestion in your other post on this board about installing drivers and latest WinTV2000 apps, and I have tried to connect my VCR to WinTV PVR, but the problems still occured. One guy at Hauppauge's technical support said that perhaps my Handycam doesn't support continuous audio and video signal even when it's not playing the videos, and he said that WinTV PVR is very prone and sensitive to video/audio signal lags.I don't know what this means, but yes if I press Handycam' stop button, the screen would turn blue. I tried to connect it via VCR to WinTV PVR but it's useless. Being such hopeless and desperate, I borrow a friend's Snazzi DVC-II, and use it to captured videos from this same Sony Handycam, with same stop and playback sequence, and guess what, it worked flawlessly ! Therefore, I like to advice anybody who wants to buy this WinTV PVR PCI, just don't ever think about it. And certainly I would like to give a thumb down for Neil Randall (http://www.zdnet.com/supercenter/stories/review/0,12070,437691,00.html) for his "disastrous" preview about WinTV PVR PCI. Thanks Neil, cause you make me lost 220 bucks to buy this piece of crap!
