ive been doing a bit of research on the above item and everywhere ive read that it has a hardware encoder. Ive emailed hauppauge requesting info on the pvr and the pvr 250 and got this reply:
Hello,
Thank you for your email in reference your interest about the PVR's.
The main difference with the PVR PCI (883) and 250 is the following:
1) The PVR PCI supports both hardware compression decoding and encoding. The card will also support MPEG1 , MPEG 2 hardware compression from 2mb/s to 12mb/s
2) The PVR 250 will support hardware decoding but will support hi performance software encoding so the quality of recording will not be the same as the PVR PCI. The unit also will not support a Radio which the 883 will. The PVR 250 will however come with DVD factory software which is a OEM special editing from ULead.
Price point £149.00 - £159.00 SRRP.

Is this true or has he messed up?
