Which CD-rs?

Hey --

Im just getting started with VCD's and was wondering the best/cheapest CDrs to use for VCD's (and a link of where to buy them would be great!) to get and what speed to burn at, i've had some trouble burning as low as 6x with my current CDs (i dont even know what brand they are ...

For every post like this, you will here from people who say "What's best for them" So you need to find out "What's best for you" cheap disks give a lot of problems.

Start with Branded disks like TDK or Maxell find one that's good for you and stick with it.

Personally, I use the no name plastic shrink wrapped CD-R's, $16.00 per one hundred disks.

After a little bit of research I discovered that the vast majority of blank Cd's are made by 4 companies.Each of these companies sell their media themselves or to other companies who put their own brand name on it.
The difference in price can be as much as 200% for the exact same blank!
So...don't always assume that because its a recognized brand name ,it will automatically be better quality.
As mentioned,try a sampling of whats on the market and see what works for you.

That is true. A lot of branded media are no better than no-names (e.g., Sony, Imation, Philips, etc).

Some companies do make their own media and these are probably the best quality discs (e.g., Kodak Ultima, Verbatime DataLife Plus, a few others).

I always buy whatever namebrand is on sale that week. BestBuy and CompUSA almost always have some brand on sale for $5 or less after rebate for a 50-pack. It's a cheap way to try different kinds to see what works for you. Personally, I've had good luck on all namebrands, only store-brands have given me problems (CompUSA and CircuitCity).
