  1. I've been creating VCD's from .avi files frequently lately, and I've come across a new movie that will have sound in .avi format, but not when it's encoded to mpeg. The audio format is MPEG layer-3. I've tried de-multiplexing the file, and converting the audio file to wav and mp3, but I still can't hear any sound when i play the converted files in winamp. Can you help me find an audio format that will play in a vcd-compatible dvd player?

    Thanks.

    VCD's use MPEG Layer-II

    Mpeg Layer-3 is MP3.

try direct stream copy on the audio and save as .wav rename the file to .mp3 and see if it plays in winamp. if you have to you can convert the mp3 audio directly to mp2 in tmpgenc and then convert your video seperately, and then multiplex.
